Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola doesn’t feel the club will sign a new striker before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

Ever since Harry Kane expressed his desire of leaving Tottenham Hotspur earlier this summer, the Sky Blues’ hopes of landing an established number 9 to replace club legend, Sergio Aguero, have taken a massive hit. After weeks and months of negotiations, including a £100million bid being rejected by Tottenham in July as chairman Daniel Levy wanted upwards of £150million, Kane announced on social media that’ll he be staying with the north London club for the foreseeable future.

That saw Manchester City switch their attention to the 28-year-old’s alternatives, with Guardiola shockingly wanting Cristiano Ronaldo.

It looked as though the deal was done, only for Manchester United to swoop in at the eleventh hour and hijack the deal.

The failed moves for Kane and Ronaldo did dampen Guardiola’s plans but it didn’t affect the Cityzens on the pitch, though, as the defending Premier League champions demolished Arsenal at the Etihad on Saturday in a 5-0 victory.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City produced a dominant display, regardless of not signing a recognised number nine.

Asked after the game does City still have plans to recruit a new striker before the transfer deadline day on Tuesday, Guardiola told BT Sport:

"“We are the same like we have done the last two, three years. Maybe people forget what we have done.”"

“Always the club has to have the intention to get better to improve. The players and manager change but the club has to remain and has desire to get better. We cannot forget.

“The team was magnificent last season we are the same through Jack and with these players we go.”

"Stressed on whether he expects any new faces to arrive at the Etihad Stadium, the City tactician added: “I don’t think so.”"

Going by Pep Guardiola’s flash interview after the victory over Arsenal, it doesn’t look like Manchester City are going to bring in a new striker as a replacement for Sergio Aguero. Gabriel Jesus is relishing his new role off the right and produced another top performance on Saturday, while Ferran Torres repaid the manager’s faith by bagging a brace from the false 9 role.

With a release clause of €75 million in Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland’s contract set to become active next summer, it is better for the Sky Blues to wait and not take any decision in haste in the last few days of the transfer window.
