Manchester City’s busy transfer week rounded-up

It’s been quite the eventful week at Manchester City, with certain players joining, confirming their future, and leaving.

Let’s take a walk-through of the latest transfer news involving the current European Champions.

A New Citizen arrives

Jeremy Doku has officially become the third signing of City’s season, alongside Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol, committing himself to the club on a five-year deal.

Doku has made quite the name for himself since joining Rennes in 2020, making 92 appearances, scoring 12 goals, and providing 10 assists.

During his first season with Rennes, the 21-year-old claimed an impressive achievement as he completed 110 dribbles, which was the most by any under-23-year-old player in Europe’s top five leagues.

In the same year of his arrival in France, Doku made his senior debut for Belgium, featuring in the Euros and World Cup. Thus far, Doku has 14 caps for the nation and contributed two goals.

As Jeremy Doku’s announcement was made public on Thursday, it was also revealed that he will be wearing the No.11 shirt.

To the Manchester city official website, Doku expressed his excitement to be joining the treble holders.

“Manchester City are the best team in world football, so to be joining them is something very special. I am a younger player with much improving and learning to do; working with Pep and alongside side these world-class players will make me much better. I cannot wait to get started!”

Bernardo Silva will NOT leave anytime soon

It’s been well-known knowledge that multiple clubs, such as Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona, were attempting a move for the Portuguese international, but despite the speculation, Bernardo has signed a new contract that lasts till the year 2026.

Bernardo Silva has been one of the most fundamental pieces of Man City’s puzzle these last few seasons and a crucial element in winning all their trophies, especially the Champions League.

When you consider the dedicated Bernardo has been for City, it’s crystal clear as to why the club and its supporters wouldn’t want to see him leave anytime soon.

Laporte says goodbye

Aymeric Laporte is no longer a player part of Pep’s squad roaster for the 23/24 season, as he signs for Al-Nasser, on a deal that makes him the most expensive defender in the Saudi League (£23.6M)

Laporte joined Man City back in 2018 and appeared 121 times for them while scoring a total of eight goals. One of his most memorable moments with the club was when he headed the winning goal against Tottenham to win the EFL Cup in 2021.

Aymeric commented that he was “proud to have represented Man City over these last few seasons” and that he will “always be a City fan.”
