Manchester City set to enter the race for Bundesliga star next summer
According to Patrick Berger from German outlet Sport, Manchester City are expected to join the transfer race for Borussia Dortmund ace Erling Haaland next summer having missed out on Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.
Harry Kane, 28, was the top target for Manchester City all summer, with Pep Guardiola wanting the Spurs striker to replace Sergio Aguero. However, after weeks and months of intense speculation, the Sky Blues have failed to find a breakthrough in negotiations with Spurs, who have maintained a firm stance of not letting their main man join a direct rival, throughout the summer.

In fact, the Sky Blues had a £100million bid rejected for Kane in July and were even ready to make a final offer of £150million last week to lure Tottenham to the table.
However, no deal materialised and on Wednesday, the 28-year-old England skipper announced on social media that he’ll be staying at Tottenham for the foreseeable future.
Sport’s Patrick Berger claims the result of Kane staying put at Spurs could now open the door to a host of options for Manchester City next summer—including Borussia Dortmund centre-forward Erling Haaland.
Erling Haaland, 21, is among one of the world’s most coveted strikers, having enjoyed a meteoric rise in stock since his January 2020 move from Red Bull Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund.
The Norwegian international scored a mindboggling 41 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund and helped them win the DFB Pokal last season.
It is widely reported the 21-year-old striker has a release clause of €75 million in his contract, which gets activated in the summer of 2022. Some of Europe’s elite clubs including Manchester United, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are all said to be keen on securing Haaland’s signature next year.
Manchester City will also be chasing the Norwegian goal-machine’s signature as Pep Guardiola is likely to be in the market for a forward again in the summer of 2022.
Currently, the Cityzens are looking at other number nine options and have been heavily linked with a shock move for Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in the last few days. It is being extensively reported that the Sky Blues have offered a two-year contract to the Portuguese forward with a salary of €15 million per season but do not intend to pay a transfer fee to Juventus.
With just four days left for the summer transfer window to slam shut, it remains to be seen how far City goes in signing Ronaldo, who became one of the world’s best players at cross-town rivals Manchester United.
