According to recent reports from the Athletic, Manchester City defender John Stones is next in line to get a contract extension.

Talks about Ederson Morales and Raheem Sterling’s extensions have already started, and the next in line is supposed to be City’s star center-back John Stones.

More from Man City News

The English center-back’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2022. Having impressed at the center-back position with the new Portuguese signing Ruben Dias, Pep Guardiola and the rest of the City board seem keen on extending Stones’ contract.

Since joining from Everton in 2016 for a whopping 47.5 million pounds, John Stones has had his ups and downs at the Etihad. Last summer it looked fairly obvious that John Stones would leave, especially after Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake were signed.

But after a slow start to his season, Stones really picked up and was a consistent starter in Pep Guardiola’s eleven forming a formidable partnership with Ruben Dias.

Having already spent five years at the club and probably at his prime at the age of 27, John Stones is an important player for Pep Guardiola and he would like to keep him at the club.

Moreover, with Ayermic Laporte being linked with a move away from the club and Eric Garcia already leaving for Barcelona, the Cityzens cannot afford to lose another center-back.

With Jack Grealish very close to signing for Manchester City, Pep would want to keep the rest of his team intact to challenge for another title and a good run in the champions league this season.
