Manchester City continue to look for a replacement for the outgoing Ayermic Laporte.  In their search, some names that have stood out are Raphael Varane, Caglar Soyuncu, and now Laporte’s Spanish teammate Pau Torres.

More from Man City Transfer Rumors

Hailed as one of the best defenders in La Liga last season, Pau Torres was one of the shining diamonds for the Villareal team who had a record-breaking season where they beat Manchester United to lift the Europa League.

His performance for the Yellow Submarine and subsequently the Spanish national team got him many admirers across Europe. These include Manchester United and Chelsea. This means if the Cityzens do decide to go after the Spaniard, they will face some tough competition.

However, if City are able to secure the defender from Villareal, he will be a like-to-like replacement for Ayermic Laporte. Not only because he is also Spanish and has played from Atletico Bilbao, but also because he is a left-footed center-back, who is capable of playing as a ball-playing defender.

Reports suggest that Pau Torres has a release clause of around 50 million pounds in his contract and since Villareal are not interested in letting him go, the only way City could see themselves securing a potential move for him is through activating the release clause.

With a playing style similar to that of Paulo Maldini, the young Spaniard will not only add depth to the Manchester City squad but will also push for the starting eleven and may finally fulfill Pep Guardiola’s search for a left-footed ball-playing defender.
