According to a report in Goal, Ederson becomes the latest player to commit his future to the club by signing a one-year extension with the Manchester Club.
This extension will keep the goalkeeper with the club till 2026.
Ederson joined City from Benfica in the summer of 2017 and quickly nailed down the number one spot in Pep Guardiola’s starting XI as he replaced the aging Claudio Bravo.
The Brazilian has been a very important player in Pep Guardiola’s time at the club, which is deemed as the most successful period in Manchester City’s history, and this deal will seal his name in the Manchester City history books for years to come.
Upon signing the contract, Ederson told the Manchester City club website:
“This was an easy decision for me. There is nowhere else I’d want to be(…)To be part of one of the best squads in world football and to compete for trophies year in year out is what every footballer wants, and that is the opportunity you’re given at City(…)We have an outstanding manager. Working with him has been one of the great experiences of my career and I am a better player for it(…)We have achieved so much in the last four years, and I am confident we can continue to bring more success to the club in the coming seasons.”
Ederson’s ability with his foot has made him one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He has racked up an impressive 97 clean sheets in the 195 appearances he has made for the club while conceding only 145 goals. (via fbref)
Ederson has joined a list of stars City have tied down to new contracts this season. These include Kevin De Bruyne, Ruben Dias, John Stones, and Fernandhinio.
Rumors suggest that Raheem Sterling might be the next one in line for a contract extension.
