Earlier this month, Manchester City saw one of their star defenders sign a new deal with the club as John Stones put pen on paper for an extension till the summer of 2026. The English international is again set to play an integral role in Guardiola’s backline this season after a successful outing in the 2020/21 campaign.

On Monday, the club confirmed that Ruben Dias has signed a new contract with the club and as per the fresh terms, the defender has been contracted to stay with the club till June 30th 2027.

The Portuguese star was happy to sign on a fresh deal as he said :

"I’m very happy to sign the new deal.I have enjoyed every single minute of my time at City since joining last year.Playing for City has surpassed all my expectations and it’s an absolute pleasure to be part of such an incredible squad."

Dias,24, has been an instant hit for the Citizens since his summer move last year in September. He was bought for a steep price tag of 65 million pounds, but at the same time had proved his worth in his debut season with the Sky Blues.

His partnership with John Stones at the back played a big role in City’s league triumph last term.

Therefore this season the defence duo is likely to play a key role in the club’s title defence and will possibly look to help the Premier League champions win their maiden Champions League trophy.

The Portuguese defender also had a decent run on the international stage as he helped his national side to move to the knockout stages of the European Championship. Currently, the former Benfica man has left for international duty and is likely to return for the important clash against Leicester City on 11th September.
