Manchester City have made a statement ahead of the new Premier League season by breaking the British record transfer fee with their £100million acquisition of Jack Grealish. And just five days later, they handed John Stones a lucrative new contract as a reward for his solid performances throughout the last season.

Now, Goal reports Manchester City are set to offer new contracts to a number of first-team players, including Phil Foden.

Phil Foden, 21, has enjoyed a meteoric rise at the Etihad Stadium in the last couple of years.

The creative midfielder has established himself as a key member of the first-team squad, helping Pep Guardiola’s side clinch the Premier League title and reach the Champions League final last season.

He was subsequently awarded the PFA Young Player of the Year for his valuable contributions.

After starring for the Sky Blues, the 21-year-old was called up to the England squad by Gareth Southgate for the European Championships.

Foden managed only three outings in the competition before picking up a foot injury in training ahead of England’s final against Italy.

One of England’s brightest prospects, Foden has developed into a top player under the watchful guidance of Pep Guardiola and is destined for bigger things in the future. The Stockport-born player, who can play in various positions across the midfield and the attack, is also a full England international.

Based on his quality performances and potential, Manchester City are making a very sensible decision tying the 21-year-old down to a new contract. He had signed a six-year deal in 2018 and fresher terms will secure his future at the Etihad Stadium.

Besides Foden, Ederson Moraes and Raheem Sterling are also in for new deals, Goal adds. Ederson, who signed a mega seven-year contract in 2018, is Guardiola’s undisputed no.1 and arguably the best goalkeeper in the Premier League. Sterling struggled for form last season, yet, he remains a key player for Guardiola and is expected to come back stronger this term.
