Manchester City Pep Guardiola has confirmed he’ll be without the services of Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden for the FA Community Shield game against Leicester City at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

Several members of the Manchester City squad are expected to be unavailable for the game against Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City side. Brazilian duo Ederson Moraes and Gabriel Jesus, who lost to Argentina in the Copa America final, will not feature.

The English quartet of Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling, John Stones and Kyle Walker are yet to return to pre-season training after being involved in the Euro 2020 final against Italy, and therefore won’t be in the City squad that travels to the Wembley Stadium.

Despite having returned to pre-season training, Kevin De Bruyne, 30, will miss the game with an ankle ligament problem he suffered while playing for Belgium in the European Championships. It remains unclear when the Belgian playmaker will attain full fitness.

Pep Guardiola also stated Phil Foden is likely to miss the FA Community Shield game and the start of the brand new Premier League campaign with the foot injury that sidelined him for the Euro 2020 final with England last month.

“Phil Foden will be still out for a while, he had a tough injury for the national team and couldn’t play the final,” Guardiola said in his pre-match presser ahead of the Leicester City game.

“We have to be careful because we have to anticipate that it could be longer (if he comes back too soon).

“And Kevin (De Bruyne) is still out as well. I think he’ll come back a little quicker than Phil apparently, but both are still out for a while.”

Both Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden played key roles behind Manchester City’s title triumph and their qualification to the Champions League final. They’ll be big misses for the FA Community Shield game but Guardiola has quality players to come in and do the job at the Wembley Stadium.

Let’s hope De Bruyne and Foden recover from their respective injuries and start playing for the Sky Blues as quickly as possible.
