Manchester City have been heavily linked with Harry Kane this summer as the Premier League champions look to replace their club legend and their record goal-scorer in Sergio Aguero, who walked away as a free agent this summer, to join FC Barcelona.

Tottenham Hotspur are seemingly insistent on holding on to their desire to keep their star striker at the club for at least another season, with Kane’s contract having three more years to run.

More from Man City Transfer Rumors

Jack Grealish has been linked with a move to Manchester City and the Cityzens are said to be extremely close to signing the English winger, despite numerous reports claiming that the Aston Villa star is apparently reconsidering the move to City. Aston Villa are also rumored to be preparing a new contract to be offered to Grealish, one that would substantially increase the 25-year-old’s earnings.

While there stands a possibility of City failing to sign either of Grealish or Kane, a sum in an excess of £250 million would be required to land the English duo from their respective clubs. However, with Kane unlikely to force his way out of Tottenham and chairman Daniel Levy’s reluctance to sell his most prized asset to a direct rival, City could be looking at different options.

Antoine Griezmann has been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium as well. The Frenchman is one of the better strikers in Europe and could be on his way out of Barcelona this summer as the former La Liga champions look to lighten their wage bill in order to register Lionel Messi’s extension with the La Liga.

Griezmann, as per MEN, is not interested in a move that would take him outside of Spain this summer. The 30-year-old is only said to be eyeing Atletico Madrid as a possible destination and will not accept a move to any club other than the current La Liga champions. Griezmann is also said to be perfectly in line with the idea of playing for FC Barcelona.

In short, Griezmann has effectively ruled out a move to Manchester City.

It cannot be said that it is a huge blow for the Citzyens as even if they fail to sign Harry Kane, they still have some other decent options to turn to. With Griezmann off the list of probable players to replace Aguero, the shortlist has probably gotten shorter for the Premier League champions.
