Manchester City suffer transfer blow as Aston Villa prepare new offer for star playmaker
Aston Villa star Jack Grealish has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City all summer.
The English playmaker, 25, has been a standout performer for Aston Villa since the club returned to the Premier League two summers ago. He had an injury-hit last campaign; yet managed to register six goals and 12 assists in 24 league starts for Dean Smith’s side.

Jack Grealish is currently on holiday after helping Gareth Southgate’s England to the Euro 2020 final.
And while he’s keen on a move to Manchester City that would see him work under Pep Guardiola, the Daily Mail reports Aston Villa are preparing a new £200,000-a-week lucrative contract to convince their star man to stay.
The 25-year-old winger signed a new deal in September 2020 that has tied him with his boyhood club until the summer of 2025.
The Villans are now doing everything in their powers to keep hold of their skipper this summer and make him one of the highest earners in the English top-flight.
The news is a potential blow to City boss Pep Guardiola’s hopes of landing one of his summer’s primary targets. Guardiola is a big admirer of Grealish and has been chasing for his signature all summer.
The Daily Mail claims the Cityzens are preparing a £100m bid for the England international, as Pep Guardiola aims to go one step further in the Champions League after losing to Chelsea in the final at Estadio do Dragao in Portugal in May.
Grealish was rumored to have agreed on personal terms with the Sky Blues earlier this week, but it now looks as though new developments regarding a new contract from Aston Villa’s side has put a twist in the tale.
Manchester City, who lost Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia to Barcelona on free transfers this summer, are yet to make a signing in this transfer window. It remains to be seen what Guardiola and City do next to lure Grealish away from Villa Park, with Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane strongly linked with the English champions too.
