Manchester City blocks Spanish star’s Olympic call

In a recent interview with AS, Manchester City youngster Ferran Torres talked about how the club blocked his chance to play in the upcoming summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Currently busy playing for the Spanish national team at the 2020 Euros, the attack has admitted his frustration after being blocked from Spain’s Olympic squad.

"He told AS in the interview,“I didn’t discuss it with them (Manchester City). I have to fit in with whatever they say. But obviously, players need holidays because seasons are very long and we all need to disconnect. We are really enjoying Euro 2020, it’s very intense; after that, we’ll have time to rest.”Source: AS"

Torres also talked about how playing in the Olympics is a good opportunity for him and how it is a dream of his to represent his country in the tournament.

"He was reported as saying,“It was a unique chance for me. Every player dreams about taking part in the Olympics at least once in their career. I don’t have time to dwell on it, we need to be focused on the Euros and go into the Switzerland game full of hope and confidence.”Source: AS"

The winger has played an important part in Spain’s road to the quarter-finals, scoring twice and assisting once.

The youngster, who was bought from Valencia for a reported fee of around 20 million pounds in the last summer transfer window, impressed in his first season at Manchester City. Scoring 7 times and assisting twice in 1306 minutes played. He even scored a hattrick against Newcastle United, as the Sky Blues won a tense game 4-3.
