Manchester City face competition to sign French Star
By Aditya Kumar
According to recent reports from the Athletic, Manchester City have joined the race for the signature of unsettled French defender, Raphael Varane from La Liga giants Real Madrid.
City are said to face competition from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United, with the fellow premier clubs also looking to sign a new centre-back in the summer transfer window.

Manchester City’s pursuit for the defender is said to pick up the pace once Aymeric Laporte’s transfer to Barcelona is confirmed.
With Varane’s contract expiring next season, Carlo Ancelotti would like to keep him in the Spanish capital, but he is realistic about the financial situation at Real Madrid. Varane can be one of the many players who leave Madrid this season.
Currently 28-years old, Varane is at the peak of his playing time. He just finished another solid season for Real Madrid at the back, averaging 0.7 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 3.5 clearances per 90 in the league.
Varane already has an impressive trophy cabinet, winning three La Liga titles and four Champions League with Real Madrid.
If Manchester City and Pep Guardiola do move in for the defender and are able to convince him to join them at the Etihad, he will not only form an impressive partnership in the defence with Ruben Dias but will also provide competition for the starting role to John Stones.
He might also prove to be an upgrade over Laporte, who is rumoured with an exit to Barcelona in the summer transfer window and over Nathan Ake who failed to prove his worth last season.
Pep Guardiola should seriously consider signing the centre-back as he will help City fight for titles both domestically and in Europe over the next few years.
All in all, if the Sky Blues are able to sign the Frenchman, do you think he will be a good signing for Manchester City?
