Manchester City have put efforts in strengthening their backline in the past couple of years. The club has succeeded in recruiting some solid defensive members. Last summer, the team saw the arrival of Nathan Ake and Ruben Dias. Their debut season at the Etihad was more than satisfactory. The Sky Blues, however, are willing to add more solidarity at the back.

According to fresh reports from Daily Mail, Manchester City are one of the favourites to sign Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid. It has been no secret that the veteran defender has fallen out with his club and is now considering shifting base this summer.

Apparently, Manchester United, too, have been marked as a possible destination for the Spanish international. Both Manchester clubs are likely expected to battle for the signature of the 35-year-old.

I believe the Sky Blues will go all guns blazing for Ramos if he officially expresses his desire to leave Madrid this summer. There have been reports which suggest that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has reportedly fallen out with the veteran superstar. Hence, their “strained” relationship can now force the star centre-back to leave Spain in the ongoing summer window.

Is the move possible?

Yes, it is. If one considers the present situation of the player at Madrid then it is safe to assume that the defender will soon move to a new club. Manchester City would definitely hope that they land the defender at the Etihad this summer. However, it will be tough for the Premier League holders to simply win the race for the signature of the veteran superstar. I feel the likes of PSG, Manchester United, and Juventus stand a good chance of signing the 35-year-old.

What can Ramos offer to Manchester City?

Experience. Now, this is one quality that has been lacking in the City backline. The likes of John Stones, Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias are excellent defenders but somehow they miss the presence of an experienced campaigner. With the presence of Ramos, Pep Guardiola will look to achieve his biggest objective at the Etihad which is winning the UEFA Champions League.

However, it is important to consider that the superstar defender is currently not the fittest player. Injury issues seem to have created problems for the centre-back. Therefore, if the club manages to sign the defender, it will be important for the Sky Blues to assess his fitness issues and help the Spanish international remain injury-free throughout the season.
