According to Caught Offside, Manchester City are close to tying central defender John Stones down on a new improved contract.
John Stones, 27, has gone from being on the brink of leaving Manchester City to one of the club’s best players this past season. The England international enjoyed a resurgence in form, forming a formidable partnership with the excellent Ruben Dias at the heart of City’s defense.

The partnership of Stones and Dias were key to Manchester City boasting of the best defense in the Premier League, with Pep Guardiola’s side conceding just 32 goals in 38 games.
Credit to Stones for turning around his Manchester City career, having started the 2020/21 campaign behind Aymeric Laporte, Eric Garcia, and new signings Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake in the pecking order.
The 27-year-old center-back battled his way back into Pep Guardiola’s side that would win the Premier League title and reach the Champions League final in Portugal.
After a brilliant season that saw him chip in with five goals in 35 appearances across all competitions, Stones is on his way to agreeing on a bumper new contract with the Sky Blues. Caught Offside claim the new deal would see the Englishman extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium beyond the summer of 2024.
It is great to see Stones back to his best form after a couple of underwhelming years with the Cityzens. On the back of a strong campaign that saw him lift the Premier League title for the third time in four seasons, the 27-year-old defender will head into the UEFA Euro 2020 competition with a lot of confidence.
However, Stones’ revival in form and subsequent partnership with Dias in the City backline saw fellow defender Aymeric Laporte lose his place from the starting XI. As things stand, he is heading for the exit, with LaLiga heavyweights Real Madrid and Barcelona vying for his signature this summer.
