Manchester City in contact with Napoli star’s representatives
According to a report from Don Balon, Manchester City are in talks with Napoli over the possibility of signing midfielder Fabian Ruiz.
Fabian Ruiz, 25, arrived at Napoli from Real Betis in 2018 and has since gone on to make 127 appearances in all formats, racking up 15 goals and 10 assists in the process. With three goals and an assist in 32 league appearances, he has enjoyed a decent season with Gennaro Gattuso’s side, who are fourth in the Serie A table and have a great chance to qualify for the Champions League.

Don Balon claims Fabian Ruiz’s representatives are in contact with Manchester City over a potential summer move to the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is a confessed admirer of the Spanish international, whose current deal in the Naples-based club expires in the summer of 2023.
After three fine seasons in Naples, the 25-year-old versatile midfielder is now keen to move on and he could cost the Sky Blues around €70million this summer, the report adds.
Manchester City are well-stocked in the central midfield department, but with Fernandinho ageing and Kevin De Bruyne excelling in the false 9 role in Guardiola’s tweaked system this season, a spot in central midfield could open up should the Spanish tactician use De Bruyne in a similar role next term.
Sergio Aguero’s departure at the end of the season will leave a big hole in the squad that would definitely need addressing. However, if City are planning to not bring in a new striker and carry on with the forwards at their disposal for the next campaign, they must then focus on strengthening their options in central midfield.
That’s when the signing of Fabian Ruiz would make sense for the Cityzens. Ruiz, one of the top midfielders on show in Serie A, is likely to play a vital role in Spain’s upcoming European Championship campaign under coach Luis Enrique.
The 25-year-old is a versatile midfielder who can play in a number of formations, and such flexibility combined with his technique, passing, vision, dribbling skills and goalscoring ability would make him a terrific fit at City under Guardiola. The former Real Betis man is set to enter the prime stages of his career and a move to the Etihad Stadium would be ideal for him.
What will now be interesting to see is if the Sky Blues make a real effort to secure the signature of Ruiz in the summer transfer window.
