Riyad Mahrez has been the hero for Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League this season. The former Leicester City man managed to find the net in both the legs of the high-voltage semi-final clash against Paris Saint-Germain.
Mahrez, 30, has been in a scintillating form of late and The Sun reports that the 30-year-old in an interview with RMC, disclosed his intentions of finishing off his career at Manchester City. The Algerian International quashed rumors of him ending his career at Marseille and insisted that England is the place where he wants to finish off his professional career.
"“I feel great at Manchester City, and I have no wish to look elsewhere.“I don’t yet know what my situation will be, but I am happy at City – and they are the club where I want to be.“People have spoken about me ending my career with Marseille, but that is not something I think about.“I want to finish my career in England, with City. Recent reports suggested that City were willing to reward Mahrez with a new contract for his impressive performances this season. Though there is no clear indication of Mahrez receiving an extension, an increase in the winger’s wages can certainly be expected.
Mahrez, 30, is playing some of his best football currently. In the Premier League, the Algerian has notched up 9 goals while assisting on 4 occasions. In the UEFA Champions League, the 30-year-old has found the net 4 times from 11 appearances, including two against PSG.
With the likes of Ferran Torres, Phil Foden, Dario Sarmiento, and Jayden Braaf in the City ranks, there is no dearth of attacking quality and prospects at the Etihad Stadium.
With Mahrez disclosing his intentions to finish off his career at the Etihad, at least one side of the speculation surrounding his future becomes clear and the ball is now in the court of the Cityzens.
With Mahrez in the final two years of his contract, Italian football journalist and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano disclosed that Manchester City has intentions of opening contract talks with the player and his agent in the coming months.
