Manchester City are currently inna very good position to win themselves the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League at the very least. A quadruple is very much on the cards for the former Premier League champions and what’s been the most impressive thing about their season is that almost all the players on the pitch has had some role to play in getting them to their current position. No one player has carried the Sky Blues and some very unlikely heroes have emerged this season. Ilkay Gundogan has been arguably the best City player this season and 19-year-old Phil Foden has made him untouchable after putting on some scintillating displays.

The question however remains. With Aguero ready to depart at the end of this season, who is it going to be for the Sky Blues that eventually replaces the 32-year-old?

The likes of Erling Haaland and Romelu Lukaku have been heavily linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium this summer. Haaland is expected to cost around £150 million while Lukaku has been slapped with a £110 million price tag.

Recently, Pep Guardiola mentioned that City will not spend £150 million on a single player due to the financial impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In another interview however, ahead of the Dortmund game, the Spaniard did say that the former Premier League champions would consider spending a huge amount on a player who they would consider to be the future of the club.

Speaking in the light of this, Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano in the latest episode of his podcast ‘Here We Go’ mentioned that Manchester City are in for a “smart market” this time around.

The Italian journalist opined that City will enter the market for a striker but will not consider spending £150-180 million on a single player. The Cityzens however, will be ready to negotiate for a right price before deciding on a deal.

"“Manchester City will try look at the market for a striker, but they will not spend 150, 170, 180 million euros on a single player. They want to say, ‘Okay, if we can have negotiations with good or important strikers, for the right price, it’s okay. If you want to use Manchester City just because we are so rich and we are spending money, then this summer we are not going to do anything crazy'”. “It will be so long for Manchester City, but it will be a smart market. If they will have some opportunity, they will sign a striker. If they continue with these kind of prices, because Pep Guardiola was saying ‘with these prices we can’t do anything’, that’s why the price is the key.“I won’t say it’s only Kane, only Haaland, only Lukaku on the list. Keep an eye also on other potential players, other potential strikers. When you can’t spend 150 for example, you can try and look for other good opportunities for 70 or 80 something like thisSource: ‘Here We Go’ podcast"

Among the other strikers also linked with City are Southampton’s Danny Ings, Inter’s Lautaro Martinez and teenage prospect Darwin Nunez.

It’d be certainly interesting to see if City go for the ‘less attractive’ yet effective options in their pursuit of finding themselves a solid center forward. One can also expect Gabriel Jesus to be given a much bigger role next season in case City decide to not go on a spending spree this summer.
