Official: Sergio Agüero to leave Manchester City

Along with Vincent Kompany and David Silva, Agüero was at the heart of City’s emergence as one of Europe’s top clubs at the start of the decade. His legendary 94th-minute winner against Queen’s Park Rangers grabbed City’s first-ever Premier League title in 2012, denying rivals Manchester United, and his career has been nothing short of incredible ever since.
Agüero currently has a stunning 257 goals and 73 assists in 384 appearances in the sky blue shirt, and is the Premier League’s all-time top foreign goalscorer, as well as the record holder for the most hat-tricks in Premier League history.
His spell in Manchester was nothing short of epic. He was, and will continue to be, an icon of the club, and will forever be associated with the best spell in the team’s history. Losing him is a truly sad blow, but in the end, it all but assures that City will dip into the transfer market for a new forward this summer to complement or surpass Gabriel Jesus.
City have been successful this season without Agüero, but it is impossible to forget all that he has done for this team. If any players are worthy of a statue at the Etihad, he is right there alongside Kompany and Silva. Hopefully, the team can now find a way to win even more silverware so that he will depart on the best possible terms.
Barcelona looks to be a likely destination, but there is still much uncertainty surrounding his future. No matter what happens, I would like to personally wish him the very best and thank him for being an incredible part of my experience as a football fan from the time that I was a child. He will forever be remembered as an absolute icon of this club.
