Manchester City star warned about his place in the team
By Swayam Ghosh
Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling was seen left out of the squad ahead of their clash with Fulham at Craven Cottage. When asked about the winger’s sudden absence, Guardiola implied that there were tactical reasons. Fulham defeated last year’s Premier League champions, Liverpool, at Anfield in the previous game week. Excluding Sterling in such a match was Pep’s approach to send a warning to the English winger.

The England international who turned 26 in December has been a part of Guardiola’s immutable City eleven. He has been the most used and one of the most trusted players on the pirch when it comes to scoring goals. Pep Guardiola leaving out his most successful player at City would mean his place in the starting eleven is not for granted. The Spaniard has got a good squad depth with multiple options in various positions and has constantly rotated his squad.
"Guardiola when asked about Sterling’s reaction to his selection, said, “Yes, he’s okay. On Sunday we will train and we will see.”"
Ahead of City’s Champions League Round of 16 tie with Borussia Monchengladbach, the Catalan feels Sterling’s inclusion in the squad would solely depend on how he trains on Sunday. Sterling has scored a hundred goals under Guardiola’s watch, becoming one of the only three players to do so, the rest being Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero. It will be a suspenseful watch to see if Raheem finds his name in the team sheet. With City having a comfortable lead of two away goals they would look to continue their unbeaten run against the German side.
Guardiola also added that Eric Garcia would be leaving his side for a free transfer this summer. The manager was suggestive that he would rotate his squad from time to time that would feature non-regular players, whoever is fit. As long as it favors his team’s situations in matches, he is happy to include them. Although Raheem Sterling starting in the City eleven, Tuesday, would have Pep look forward to a much-anticipated game contribution from the Englishman.
