All good things must come to an end. After a remarkable run from December 2020 to March 2021, Manchester City’s winning run has finally ended. The Sky Blues would win 21 matches in all competitions. The winning period saw City advance in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, and they excelled in the English Premier League.
In the Carabao Cup, City defeated Arsenal and Manchester United in the competition’s Quarter-finals and Semi-finals, respectively. They will face Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup Final on 25 April.

In the FA Cup, the Sky Blues marched past Birmingham City, Cheltenham Town, and Swansea City. They will now face Everton in the competition’s Quarter-finals on 20 March.
In the UEFA Champions League, City won their group and they earned a crucial 0-2 victory against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the first leg of the competition’s Round of 16. The second leg will be held on 16 March.
Finally, at the start of December 2020, City were sitting outside the European places in the EPL table. The Sky Blues then went on an amazing winning streak, which now sees them at the top of the EPL table by double digits. City won 15 EPL matches in a row. Their most impressive spell came in February 2021, where they defeated Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, and Arsenal.
In terms of statistics, City scored 55 goals in 21 matches across all competitions. Their defense was also impressive, where they only conceded eight goals. They kept 13 clean sheets in this process.
City will be disappointed that their run ended in such a lackluster fashion, but there is still much to play for in the 2020/21 season. The Sky Blues sit at the top of the EPL, 11 points clear of second-placed Manchester United. City are also making deep runs in cup competitions. If they are able to bounce back from this performance, they will surely be on course for silverware this season.
How will they respond? Only time will tell.
