Manchester City Veteran’s Uncertain Future Plans
By Swayam Ghosh
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City looks a formidable side with their relentless win record in the past few weeks. Their win against Arsenal on Sunday in Emirates Stadium saw them extend the unbeaten run to 18 consecutive matches.
Manchester City has kept 10 clean sheets in their last eight matches sit 10 points clear off the title-rivals Manchester United and Leicester City. Although looking at their current form it appears that the City team are run-away winners in clear sight, with less than 15 games remaining, Pep Guardiola woes as some players are set to leave.

Guardiola admits he might have to witness some of his star players leave this year. Manchester City veterans Fernandinho and Sergio Aguero both run out of contract this season. This upcoming summer transfers will be crucial and uncertain for them as the club has not decided to extend their contracts. The manager who would be looking to improve his squad next season was very confident about their quality and the services they could offer the club. He said,
"“The quality they have is exceptional, there’s no doubts. But year by year the situation is different because there are players who accept some roles and some that don’t.” (Sky Sports)"
The Brazilian joined Manchester City in the summer of 2013 and has been a reliable player for the managers who have been around him. Upon the departure of David Silva to Real Sociedad, Guardiola made him the club captain, but has only managed to appear 12 times and has started only in 6 games this season. His defensive duties have been alternatively shared by both Rodri and Joao Cancelo, during his injury period. Manchester City seems to have found other options to invest other than Fernandinho.
The 35-year-old defensive midfielder runs out of contract this summer and would have to leave his team if he isn’t given a new contract.
Similarly, the future of the Argentine forward who is City’s top goal-scorer lies in the same state as it is highly unlikely that the former Premier League champions would want to extend the 32-year-old’s contract, given his injury woes in the past year and half. Moreover, Manchester City are being heavily linked to Erling Haaland.
Sergio Aguero has been linked with a move to Barcelona this summer. He will walk out as a free agent, should the club decide to not renew his contract.
For Fernandinho, it would be interesting to see which team goes for him as Pep has used a rather settled squad this season, not turning too much towards Fernandinho.
