Manchester City came out victorious yet again against Tottenham Hotspurs on Saturday at Etihad Stadium. They are currently on their 16 games unbeaten run in all competitions and have shaped into quite a formidable side.

Ilkay Gundogan has been the most consistent performer in the City squad. With a 13 goal haul in all competitions, one can say that he’s enjoying the form of his life. Gundogan has been a part of the starting line-up almost every matchday since Kevin De Bruyne’s injury, and it’s safe to say that KDB’s absence has not been felt.

The 30-year-old who has been voted Premier Player of the Month for January scored a brace against Tottenham, could not see the game out and was seen leaving the ground on the 69th minute.

When asked about his injury, Guardiola said,

"“We will see tomorrow [Sunday]. He told me it was tight. He is intelligent to say it, but we will see tomorrow”."

The sight of him limping out of the game clinging to his groin will have Guardiola worried. Manchester City will travel to Goodison Park to face Everton on the coming Wednesday.

The manager would expect Gundogan to recover from the injury before that, given how influential he has been for City. His injury update is currently stalled by a detailed scan report, which would shed light on the amount of damage done.

Gundogan’s last 11 goals have come from the 12 games he has started for City and has not missed a game since recovering from Covid-19.
Guardiola, when asked about his playing technique and current form, added,

"“He plays close to the striker and has incredible sense; he has this quality. I said many times he can play as a false nine and the people laugh at me. I am delighted with his performance. He won the Player of the Month award for January and he still keeps playing this way. In February, he could win it again.”"

With crucial games coming thick and fast for City, we would hope Gundogan comes out unscathed and becomes available for selection for the upcoming games.
