Manchester City have been linked with Lionel Messi for the past few months and fair to say, their only competition for securing the 33-year-old’s signature is Paris Saint-Germain. The Parisians have also been linked with the Argentine because of their financial might to house the massive wages of the Barcelona captain and due to the fact that Neymar is a very close friend of Messi’s and an attacking trio of Mbappe, Neymar, and Messi would be very intimidating. Having said that, Angel Di Maria is of the opinion that Messi is likely to join him at PSG for the next season, as revealed by Goal.

Lionel Messi is in the final year of his contract, at the end of which he will be a free agent and that would mean that he can negotiate a free transfer with any club that might approach him. Walking on similar waters is his Argentina teammate in Angel Di Maria. The 32-year-old is optimistic of signing a new contract with the Parisians before the end of this season.

There are three main factors to consider when linking Messi with a possible move to the Etihad Stadium.

Manager Pep Guardiola was one of the more influential figures in Messi’s career and a successful partnership with the Spaniard helped the Argentine ace to become the player that he is today. The second factor would be the presence of Sergio Aguero. Though the striker also happens to be in the final year of his contract, should he sign for another season, it will obviously make things better for Manchester City and their hopes of landing Messi. The third and final factor to consider would be Manchester City’s current form and the possible stars linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium. The likes of Renan Lodi and Erling Haaland have been tipped with a move to the Cityzens, indicating that the club has got a very bright future.

Lionel Messi is arguably one of the best players of all time, if not the best. Having said that, his addition to the Sky Blues would certainly be a great one but the team is very much capable of holding its own even when the going gets tough, without having the Argentine with them. Lionel Messi will surely be welcome to don the infamous Sky Blue shirt but if manager Pep Guardiola has shown anything about this team it is that the former Premier League champions are a champion side because of a reason and they will continue to bring home trophies even if they fail to land the 33-year-old.
