Manchester City fear over their star striker’s performance
Only a couple of days ago, Pep Guardiola defended his growing star in Gabriel Jesus. However, it seems the support staff has started to run out of steam when it comes to having faith in the Brazilian.
Sergio Aguero is a Manchester City club legend and arguably one of their best strikers of all time. His lethality in front of the goal is just as good as it gets and the 23-year-old Gabriel Jesus has got some massive shoes to fill. Aguero’s fitness has been a cause of concern for the Sky Blues as recurrent injuries aren’t helping him to find a proper rhythm. Jesus, his backup, has been asked to step in, in the absence of Manchester City’s main man. The 23-year-old however, hasn’t had the best of starts to the season, and now the Atletic reports that there are growing concerns in the management regarding Gabriel Jesus’ potential, and the think-tank at the Etihad now fear that Jesus might never reach the level of accuracy and lethality that the management intended him to.
Mind you, Gabriel Jesus was a major part of Manchester City’s record-breaking 2017/18 campaign.
The 23-year-old striker from Brazil has found the net only twice this season, raising concerns over his form and concentration in front of the goal. Having said that, it is the perfect time to bring up the subject of Erling Braut Haaland.
The Dortmund star striker has proved to be a prolific goal-scorer. After having a successful last season, the Norwegian hasn’t shown signs new of slowing down and has carried the goal-scoring form into the new season. In just 14 appearances this season, the 20-year-old has managed to find the net 17 times while assisting on three occasions. Gabriel Jesus showed the same form in his early City days as he was able to find the net seven times from just 10 appearances.

Haaland has been linked with a move away from Dortmund and Manchester City are said to be one of the potential suitors for the striker. While the fee and availability of Haaland for this winter window is unknown, it is highly unlikely that the former Bundesliga champions would want to offload their main-man before the end of this season. There is a release clause of 65 million pounds in his contract that gets activated in 2022. Dortmund are looking to cash-in on their starlet before that happens.
Even though he has Pep Guardiola’s backing, Gabriel Jesus may need to find his goal-scoring form soon enough or he might see himself pushed down the order at Manchester City. He has been given a golden opportunity to cement his place in the XI in the absence of Sergio Aguero.
Some exciting times are in store for us, City fans and only time will tell if the 23-year-old can soon find his concentration levels and lethality in front of the goal.
