The busy winter season is about to begin. After playing a third UEFA Champions League match for a third week in a row, Manchester City will prepare for a busy winter period.

Manchester City’s November 2020 schedule began with a Champions League group stage match against Olympiacos. The Mancunians will then have two difficult English Premier League fixtures on either side of the international break. City will host Liverpool on Sunday, 8 November before traveling to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, 21 November.

A worry for City manager Pep Guardiola ahead of the Spurs match, however, will be that a large contingency of his senior team will be away on international duty for two full weeks. The Sky Blues have already experienced some early setbacks in the league due to fatigue and injury. The Mancunians cannot afford to lose more of their players to injury. Otherwise, the Sky Blues will have to make up a lot of ground in the league in a short period of time.

Following the match against Spurs, City will travel to Olympiacos toward the end of the month. City lead their Champions League group with three victories out of three matches. A win against Olympiacos would give the Sky Blues enough points to qualify for the competition’s knockout stages this year, and this could provide a boost of confidence for the English club as they try to find their footing in their domestic competitions. (While City have struggled domestically thus far, the Englishmen look much more like themselves when playing in the Champions League group stages this year.)

Manchester City will then end the month of November with a home match against Burnley.

Overall, the Sky Blues will play five matches in two competitions in November. While this does not seem that drastic, Guardiola will need to consider that many of his players will be away for a two-week international break. The Catalan will hope his players stay healthy during this period. He cannot afford to lose anyone ahead of the festive December schedule. Otherwise, City may have to play catchup for the rest of the 2020/21 season.
