Manchester City’s crisis up top could be over more quickly than expected with Sergio Agüero back in training.

Manchester City have struggled for consistent center-forward play to start this Premier League campaign without star striker Sergio Agüero. The Argentine was thought to be in contention to be healthy in time for the latter stages of last summer’s Champions League, but the timetable has been far longer.

With Agüero making a quicker-than-expected return to training along with the improved situation of Gabriel Jesus, City could be back to full strength soon. The international break will do the team a great service following points dropped in consecutive league matches against Leicester City and Leeds United. Health has been the main concern for City so far this season, but given their poor play, the return of a true striker will be very telling of the team’s fortunes in the league this year.

At 32 years old, City still lean heavily on their all-time top goalscorer, but with one year left on his deal understand that he will be moving on at some time in the near future. If this is his final season at the Etihad Stadium, he will look to make it count with another 20+ goal campaign as he looks to lead City back to the title.

This return to training is exciting to say the least. City will need to proceed with caution for both Agüero and Jesus, as they can ill afford a longer-term injury to either forward player. While there is no official date for his potential debut as of yet, this is a big step for the club’s talisman.
