Manchester City will face Burnley in the Carabao Cup fourth round at Turf Moor.

Following Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Bournemouth at home with a side featuring seven academy products, they will now face Premier League opposition in Burnley at Turf Moor in the Carabao Cup fourth round.

City extended their quest for a fourth straight league cup trophy on the back of great displays from Phil Foden and Liam Delap, and given City’s squad depth issues, it would be expected that manager Pep Guardiola will once again call upon his academy as the tournament progresses.

With the match to be played in midweek of the week starting with Sept. 28, City will need to rebound quickly after a tough Premier League fixture against Leicester City this weekend. With Gabriel Jesus out injured, the Burnley fixture could be another opportunity for the 17-year old Delap to get more first-team experience as he looks to take over as the team’s main option up front moving forward.

This will be a difficult test for City, especially if they field another rotated side in order to prioritize the Premier League with their current injury situation. Burnley will be compact and look to catch out City with hard-nosed defending and physicality on set pieces, so a potentially very young side will need to be aware.

A deep run in the cup with the club’s youth players would be a very rewarding and exciting experience for players and supporters alike, and but to keep the journey going it will require a greater effort than it took to defeat Bournemouth.
