In a duel against Leroy Sané, the man he replaced, Ferran Torres held up his end of the bargain in Spain’s 1-1 Nations League draw with Germany.

With the Premier League season approaching, Manchester City’s £20 million new winger Ferran Torres remains a bit of an unknown. While he was available on a discount due to internal turmoil at Valencia, the 20-year old is one of football’s brightest young prospects, and showed it today against the man he is set to replace.

Torres got the start for a La Roja team with a squad full of uncapped players and delivered a performance to truly excite Manchester City supporters. He was direct, showed great pace, and caused major problems for PSG fullback Thilo Kehrer, makeshift central defender Emre Can, and new teammate İlkay Gündoğan.

His creativity and willingness to run at defenders is something this underachieving Spain side have been sorely missing in recent years, and he looks to be the perfect player for Pep Guardiola. However, his biggest moments came at the end of the match, with Spain trailing by a goal to new Chelsea striker Timo Werner. Torres whipped in a good cross, which was eventually finished by Ansu Fati, but controversially ruled out for a foul on Sergio Ramos.

He did not stop there, however, as he put in another great ball that would end up creating José Gayà’s last-gasp equalizer for Spain as they grabbed a crucial point in Stuttgart. Overall, Torres looked absolutely brilliant, and a player who can come in and contribute right away as City look to regain their Premier League title. He has all the tools to be an absolute star under Guardiola, and with such a cheap fee, City fans should be ecstatic with this showing as the new season approaches. There may just be a new Spanish star in Manchester wearing the number 21 shirt.
