With club legend David Silva departing this summer, Manchester City have decided to honor his legacy in two ways: with a statue outside the Etihad and a mosaic at the City Football Academy.
David Silva’s legendary tenure at Manchester City came to an end with the club’s 3-1 Champions League defeat to Lyon, but his legacy will not be forgotten. The club revealed on Monday that Silva will be honored with a statue outside the Etihad Stadium, and will also receive a mosaic at the City Football Academy commemorating his performance in City’s 6-1 victory over rivals Manchester United in 2011.
Given Silva’s contribution to City’s rise as one of English football’s top clubs, both of these honors are fully merited, and he is one of the best to ever wear sky blue. In terms of statues, I personally hope he is soon joined by Vincent Kompany, who recently confirmed his retirement, and Sergio Agüero as pillars of this recent era of success that lifted City to new heights.

When fans are allowed to return to football, Silva will be given the opportunity to come back to the Etihad and receive the send off he should have during his final home match, but given the global circumstances, that was unfortunately not possible this season.
Silva will be dearly missed, and these honors are fitting tributes for his everlasting legacy at the club. He was a brilliant player who was not always appreciated by the general football world to the level he deserved, but City’s players, supporters, and managers always knew El Mago‘s worth. Fully deserved, and both will be a sight to behold.
