Sergio Agüero capped off a record-setting January with another one for the books, this time collecting the Premier League Player of the Month Award for the seventh time—the most in history.

With six goals, including a hat-trick in Manchester City’s 6-1 victory over Aston Villa, Sergio Agüero grabbed two huge records in the month of January, and capped it off by winning the Premier League’s Player of the Month Award for a record-breaking seventh time.

Agüero passed Thierry Henry to become the highest foreign-born goalscorer in league history, and also set the Premier League career hat-trick record, passing Alan Shearer. Agüero is the first City player to win the award this season, which has previously been won by Liverpool’s Sadio Mané and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Norwich City’s Teemu Pukki, Leicester’s Jamie Vardy, and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

After breaking the hat-trick record against Aston Villa, Agüero capped off his month with both goals in City’s 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace and the winner in a 1-0 result against Sheffield United. The Citizens have been in a serious scoring drought as of late, and will need their talisman to recover this form heading into the weekend’s match against West Ham United.

Agüero’s seventh Player of the Month puts him ahead of Tottenham striker Harry Kane and former Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard, both of whom won the award six times. With another feather in his cap as he establishes himself as one of the greatest forwards to ever grace English football, Agüero’s goalscoring efforts appear to be far from over. City’s all-time leading goalscorer is just one goal behind leading Premier League scorer Vardy as he looks to win the Golden Boot for just the second time in his illustrious career.
