Bayern Munich ‘dreaming’ of Pep Guardiola return
Bayern Munich have put Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola on a three-man shortlist to fill their vacant managerial position, per CityXtra.
According to reports in Germany, following the sacking of manager Niko Kovač, Bayern are looking to their former manager Pep Guardiola as the top choice to fill the vacancy.
Every Bayern manager since the Catalan departed the club in 2016 prior to joining Manchester City has been judged against Guardiola’s stunning football, something the club has found difficult to replace.
Guardiola reportedly has maintained a property in Munich. He reportedly sits alongside Erik ten Hag of Ajax and PSG’s Thomas Tuchel on Bayern’s shortlist, two of the hottest coaching names in Europe.
Although Bayern may be dreaming of reuniting with their former coach, they may find it difficult to replace the ghost of Guardiola. The City manager was heavily linked with Juventus a year ago, something that did not come to pass. These types of stories always seem to arise after a big defeat for City, last time after the Champions League quarterfinal against Tottenham, and here after the 3-1 loss to Liverpool last weekend.

The Catalan seems to still enjoy his role at the club, and although rumors of his departure are flying constantly, 18 months remain on his contract. In addition, he is rumored to prefer the managerial position of a national team as his next destination.
Assistant manager Mikel Arteta appears to be next in line at the Etihad should Guardiola leave, although he has been heavily linked to positions at former clubs Everton and Arsenal. Marco Silva and Unai Emery have yet to be sacked, but if either were to depart, Arteta would be in high demand.
For the moment Guardiola remains the manager at Manchester City. He is equipped with one of the world’s most talented squads, a budget that can fill any of his needs, and a near-perfect situation in the world’s most competitive domestic league. He has led the club to unprecedented success, and still has the chance to cap off his hugely successful tenure in Manchester with the club’s first-ever Champions League title this season.
