Ederson

It seems wrong in many ways to only score Ederson as a 7 when he was simply not called into action because of our thrilling display of attacking. There were long periods where he could have got out a picnic blanket and had a sleep in the sunshine.

Kyle Walker

A game where Walker did not do very much wrong at all feels like a positive remark. Here he was incisive, supporting and covering the attack. His passing was also crisp and directed. There was little actual defending to do if truth be told other than to remain alert.

Nicolas Otamendi

The General was much maligned a week ago but today was back. He had one wobbly moment where he was shrugged off and could have been exposed but otherwise this was a solid display. Even ended up with a much sought after goal, thanks to some intelligent movement and determination. Great to see his celebrations on the pitch which felt like an emotional release after his battering in the press.

Fernandinho

Was there a time when Fernandinho was not a central defender? He seemed so assured and commanding against Watford that he looks like our best defender now. Marshalled the back line and directed those around him. There will be sterner tests to come but this was a comprehensive display.

Benjamin Mendy

A surprise to see Mendy start and he was withdrawn at half time as Pep seeks to manage his re-introduction to the team. He looked leaner than he has before and although he marauded down the left wing and made some important crosses, he is some way from his all conquering best. It will take time for him to trust his own body fully and commit 100%.
