Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne has reportedly sustained an injury that will keep him on the sidelines until October at least.

According to City Watch, the Belgian suffered a serious knee injury in training and could be out for two or three months.

Having only returned to Manchester City training last Monday following a successful World Cup campaign with Belgium, Kevin de Bruyne was left out of City’s starting eleven against Arsenal.

And it seems last season’s luminary will have to wait to get this season underway, as this injury seems to look as severe as his setback two years ago.

Manchester City’s official club page or Twitter account have yet to address the extent of the injury, however the incident apparently occurred during Wednesday’s training session.

If Kevin de Bruyne is out for the amount of time it looks increasingly likely he will be sidelined for, Pep Guardiola will probably be forced to stick with the same team that beat Arsenal.

Ilkay Gundogan or David Silva may be set to replace the Belgian for an undisclosed period of time, with Bernardo Silva enjoying some sublime early-season form that is bound to keep him in the City starting eleven.

Whether Kevin de Bruyne will return for the start of Manchester City’s Champions League venture is still unknown, however October looks the probable date of his full recovery.

Should he be forced to sit out until then, the midfielder will miss a crucial match against Liverpool, and the beginning of City’s European journey. He would also fail to be ready in time for the beginning of Belgium’s UEFA Nations League campaign.

Hopefully the injury isn’t as serious as initial reports indicate, but it is likely Kevin de Bruyne will miss an indefinite number of Manchester City’s games.
