Manchester City midfielder Bersant Celina has pulled over by the police for driving while intoxicated Sunday morning, according to the Manchester Evening News.
According to sources, Celina had a fight with his girlfriend at Club Liv before leaving in his Mercedes. Apparently, Celina’s girlfriend notified police, who stopped the 19-year-old Kosovar at a blood alcohol level of 57 micrograms, well beyond the 35-microgram limit. Police recorded smelling alcohol on the 19-year-old’s breath.

Celina later pleaded guilty to drunk driving and was fined £2,625 in addition to £255 in other expenses related to the ordeal. He also is banned from driving.
There might be other consequences for Celina. Manager Pep Guardiola already has already made news with his team policies such as diet restrictions concerning junk food and who players can eat with at lunch to prevent cliques from forming. He’s also considering implementing a ban on hotel gatherings the night before home matches. Although not part of the first team, Celina’s antics involving late night drinking — alcohol is certainty not good for the midsection — and partying seems not to be in the spirit of culture Guardiola wants to establish. Plus, players running afoul of the law doesn’t reflect well on the Manchester City brand. It would not be at all surprising if this incident has some say in whether Celina has a future at City.

Prior to last night’s transgressions, Celina is about to go on a season-long loan to Dutch club FC Twente. City discovered the young talent four years ago at Norwegian side Stromsgodset and quickly acquired him. He made his debut for City as a late substitute in 3-0 victory over Norwich City in an FA Cup match in January. Celina also toured with City in China this preseason before his loan deal.
