Manchester City International Break Preview: September 7, 2015
By Jay Sanin
Yesterday was a relatively uneventful day of international action for Manchester City players, with the only action coming in Belgium’s 1-0 win over Cyprus in which Vincent Kompany and Kevin De Bruyne appeared. Today, a friendly pairs City defenders against each other, with it looking likely that three blues will see some form of action.
Matches featuring Manchester City players
- France vs. Serbia (friendly)
Manchester City players active
- Aleksandar Kolarov
- Eliaquim Mangala
- Bacary Sagna
In their last times out, Bacary Sagna helped France keep a clean sheet in a friendly against Portugal, while Kolarov contributed an assist to Serbia’s win over Armenia in Euro 2016 qualifying. Today, they will face each other in a match that could see them defend each other when they each get forward. It will be interesting to see who gets the better of that matchup, as both have been outstanding when getting forward during the first few matches of the Premier League season.

Meanwhile, Eliaquim Mangala rode the bench during France’s match earlier in the international break. The Manchester City center back may see action today, though, as he is a part of a squad that will surely look to rotate in order to avoid possible injuries across the board. While that same principle could see Sagna rested today, should they both see the field, watching Sagna and Mangala patrol the French defense together would be very entertaining.
As the international break winds down, City has been lucky not to pick up any injuries to this point. If the club had its way, none of their players would feature in today’s match. But if they do, let’s hope for their continued health so the squad is ready for their big match against Crystal Palace upon their return.
It should be another quiet day for Manchester City players abroad. Should anything interesting happen, we’ll keep you posted at Man City Square.
