After a transfer saga that seemed would never end, it appears that Manchester City has finally gotten their man.  Weeks and weeks of negotiations that saw Liverpool reject multiple bids from the Citizens have finally paid off, as Raheem Sterling will finally make the highly-publicized move to the Etihad Stadium.  At just 20-years-old, Sterling is without question one of the best young players in the game. After moving for such a massive fee, the pressure on the player will increase dramatically.

More from Man City News

According to ESPN FC, Liverpool has agreed to a fee of £49 million to sell Raheem Sterling to Manchester City.  The £49 million dollar fee is the highest that City has ever paid for a single player, breaking the record fee they spent on Carlos Tevez in 2009.  Tevez made the move from bitter rivals Manchester United for £47 million.  Considering the spending habits of the new owners of Manchester City, it is hard to imagine that Raheem Sterling was more expensive than the likes of Yaya Toure, Sergio Aguero, and David Silva.

The signing of Sterling was one of the biggest priorities for Manchester City this Summer.  The club is in desperate need of youth and speed in the squad.  The current crop of players is mostly foreign and adding homegrown players has been a priority in recent weeks.  Sterling ticks all three boxes for his new club. At a price of nearly £50 million, Sterling will need to deliver immediately upon his arrival.

Considering the amount of effort that has been put into the acquisition of the new player, it is clear that Manchester City rates the player extremely high and expects Raheem Sterling to evolve into a superstar for his new club. However, the drama surrounding the end of his Liverpool career and the past off-season should be cause for concern for Manchester City and their new high-profile player.

Manchester City had been rather quiet in the Summer Transfer Window thus far.  However, the signing of Sterling could mark the start of the spending spree for the club.  City will look to improve on a disappointing campaign in 2014-2015 and new players could go a long way in helping the cause.  Sterling will undoubtedly improve the club for next season, but more players will need to be brought in before the start of the 2015-2016 season.
