Four Takeaways From Khaldoon Al Mubarak’s Interview
By Jordan Katz
Yesterday, Manchester City posted on their website an interview with the club’s chairman, Khaldoon Al Mubarak. The interview was insightful and fascinating for all City fans. Here are four takeaways from the conversation.
1. Khaldoon Al Mubarak thought last season was a disappointment
Manchester City is a club with great ambitions and Al Mubarak wants to carry out those ambitions to the best of his ability. This is reflected in how he described Manchester City’s 2014-15 season as a disappointment. As we all know, City came away with zero trophies and was an underwhelming side in every competition they were in. Al Mubarak was not pleased with how City performed and has higher expectations for how the club can perform compared to what they did last year.

2. Khaldoon Al Mubarak won’t accept Financial Fair Play as an excuse
Al Mubarak also isn’t one for making excuses when it comes to Financial Fair Play. He could very easily use it as an excuse for City’s performance, but chose not to. City’s disappointment this season can’t simply be blamed on FFP and it is good to see Al Mubarak not dwelling on it. Instead, he looked towards the future and knows that City will have this Summer Transfer Window to spend without limitations.
3. City will definitely be spending in the transfer market
It’s hardly breaking news that City will be looking to spend in order to improve the squad from last season. That being said, it is great to hear from the chairman of the club the goals he has with the Summer Transfer Window. He expressed a desire of wanting to take City “to the next level” while still keeping the core of the team in tact. He made it clear that there will be more changes to the squad and the changes be done to improve and strengthen the team. Al Mubarak also spoke about how City has developed into an appealing club for world-class talent and spoke about the market.
4. Khaldoon Al Mubarak has high praise for Sergio Aguero
While City is a team filled with great players, no one is perhaps greater than Sergio Aguero. That is the opinion of Al Mubarak. He spoke glowingly about Aguero’s potential, even venturing as far as to say that Aguero could be a Ballon d’Or winner in the future. He expressed a desire to build the team around him, giving his striker the best possible environment to succeed and reach his full-potential. While Aguero was his focus, Al Mubarak also had praise for Joe Hart, David Silva and the recently departed James Milner.
