Apparently, scoring more goals than any other player in the Barclays Premier League is not enough to earn a spot on the ‘PFA Team of the Year’
When the PFA announced the ‘Team of the Year‘ for 2014-2015, several things were immediately clear. With Chelsea earning six of the eleven spots in the team, it is clear that Chelsea was overwhelmingly the best team in the Barclays Premier League in 2015. Also, the several players were notably absent from the squad. Arguably the best midfielder in the Premier League this season, Cesc Fabregas was left off the team of the year that was loaded with his teammates.
Bleacher Report covered the announcement of the ‘Team of the Year‘. The most surprising omission from the squad was without question, Sergio Aguero. The Argentina International has been one of the most prolific goal scorers in the Premier League over the past few seasons. Despite the Argentine enjoying his best campaign as a member of Manchester City, the player was left off the team of the year.

This season, Aguero has scored 25 goals and leads the Premier League scoring race over the two attackers that were selected for the ‘Team of the Year’ in front of him. At the time of the announcement, Aguero had scored 21 goals and scored more than both Diego Costa and Harry Kane. However, Costa and Kane were selected as members of the ‘Team of the Year’.
Sergio Aguero may have been the only City player deserving of a place in the ‘Team of the Year’, but his omission does not make sense. Following the disappointment of being left off the ‘Team of the Year’, Aguero has experienced an offensive explosion in front of goal. Following the announcement, Aguero has found the back of the net four times in the past two games.
Sergio Aguero does not need to be recognized as a member of the ‘Team of the Year’ in order to prove he is the best striker in the Barclays Premier League. The Argentine continues to improve for Manchester City and his best years could be ahead of him. Aguero will be a member of this team in the future, but his omission this season has definitely raised eyebrows.
