Defending Premier League champions Manchester City have been linked with a summer swoop for FC Metz’s highly-rated midfielder Pape Sarr.

Pape Sarr, 18, joined FC Metz from Generation Foot on a five-year deal in September 2020. Initially, the midfielder was sent to play for the French club’s reserves, but after making just one appearance, he was promoted to the first team. Since then, he has been making waves in Ligue 1 and managed 25 appearances last season, scoring four goals.

More from Man City Transfer Rumors

The teenager, who made his international debut for Senegal back in March, is also on the radar of Chelsea, Manchester United, and Real Madrid.

However, as per reliable journalist Jonathan Shrager, Pape Sarr appears to be “much more likely” to sign for Manchester City ahead of their cross-town rivals.

Sarr is highly regarded within French football and it’s no surprise he’s caught the attention of Manchester City, who have just made one summer signing in Jack Grealish. The Sky Blues continue to be linked with a host of players, including Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane.

Looking at the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea strengthening their squads, it is vital for Pep Guardiola to at least get one more player in before the transfer window slams shut. Signing a central midfielder doesn’t look like a priority, yet, if City can get a young player with potential for a reasonable price it won’t be a bad idea.

In that regard, Pape Sarr would fit the bill perfectly at the Etihad Stadium. The Metz midfielder is a sought-after talent in Europe and it seems to be a matter of time until he leaves his club for greener pastures.

The Senegalese won’t be an immediate starter at Manchester City and could take time to adapt to the demands of Premier League football. He has the qualities to be a potential long-term replacement for the aging Fernandinho, who penned down a one-year deal that extended his stay at the club until 2022.

Thus, the Sky Blues could stand to gain a lot in the future by signing Sarr from Metz in this transfer window.
