Manchester City can always opt for “Plan B” if they miss out on Kane transfer
By Zoheb Alam
Manchester City is being backed to spend 160 million pounds for the services of Harry Kane this summer. The English Champions are although yet to make an official announcement regarding the Kane transfer but are likely to reach an agreement for the striker before the start of the season.
However, in recent weeks, there have been murmurs that have suggested that the club has been looking for cheaper alternatives for the Spurs talisman. The likes of Antoine Griezmann, Tammy Abraham, and Danny Ings have all been linked to a move to the Etihad this summer.
Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, too, has been heavily linked with a move away from Germany with reports suggesting that Pep Guardiola is well in favor of reuniting with his former no.9.
Recently, former City defender Steve Howey gave his ‘stamp of approval’ for the Bayern hitman as in an interview with Transfer Tavern, he said :
"I think he would cost less and he’d probably be asking for slightly less in wages as well. I mean, that’s a very good shout.“They haven’t got an out-and-out goalscorer like [Sergio] Aguero, that’s what he did. He was just born to score goals, but Lewandowski is born to score goals too."
At present, Lewandowski is not only a cheaper alternative for City but is also a better prospect than “trophyless” Harry Kane. Last season, the attacker had a fruitful campaign in the German top-flight as he scored 41 goals in 29 league appearances.

The Sky Blues could expect the Polish international to move out of Germany as the appointment of Julien Nagelsmann can become a deciding factor for the attacker.
The 32-year-old has a contract at the Allianz Arena which will see him stay at the club till the summer of 2023. There are chances that the Bayern superstar might not opt to sign an extension with the club and could leave the Bundesliga Giants for free after the expiry of his contract.
In the coming weeks, Pep Guardiola will have to take an important call regarding the transfer of Kane. The Spaniard boss has already splashed over 500 million pounds on transfers since his appointment in 2016. Spending another 160 million pounds on a ‘non-branded winner will have serious consequences if the club fails to secure the big prize of Europe-the UEFA Champions League.
