Aston Villa are keen to hold on to Grealish and have offered him a new contract with improved terms, as manager Dean Smith wants to continue building the team around his influential skipper.
The Villans are believed to be demanding a fee in the region of £100 million for their talented playmaker and City are expected to make an official bid in the next few days.
As things stand, there’s an air of certainty about the Sky Blues signing Grealish, but whether a deal will be wrapped up before the FA Cup Community Shield game against Leicester City on August 7 remains to be seen.
Should City thrash out a deal for the Villa star, they would then switch their attention towards selling players. And one of the City players who could be leaving the Etihad Stadium this summer is Bernardo Silva, reports 90min.
Bernardo Silva, 26, has proven to be a key signing for City, as he has racked up 201 appearances so far, scoring 35 goals and supplying 44 assists. He had a role to play in City’s title success and Carabao Cup triumph last season but continues to be outshined by some of his more eminent teammates.
Rumors are circulating that the Sky Blues could sell the Portuguese international to fund a move for Tottenham star Harry Kane. 90min are now reporting that Bernardo Silva’s representatives are vigorously searching for a new club, as City close in on Grealish.
The report adds Silva’s agents ‘have been working behind the scenes in recent weeks to drum up interest in the 26-year-old playmaker, who joined the Cityzens four years ago from Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco.
At 26, Silva is heading into the prime stages of his career and will be keen to continue playing at the highest level. As City look set to bring in Grealish, it’ll be in Silva’s best interests to leave the Etihad Stadium for pastures new before the transfer window slams shut on August 31.
