Fabrizio Romano gives an update on Manchester City’s pursuit of £50m-rated star

Manchester City have got the financial strength to make some key signings this summer. The Premier League champions are set to back Pep Guardiola in the summer market as they try to launch another attempt at securing the coveted UEFA Champions League trophy for the first time in the club’s season, next term.

The position of the left-back was subjected to constant discussion and changes, last term. Benjamin Mendy spent another season at City where he was injured for a major chunk of the season. Oleksandr Zinchenko was offered a way out of the club at the start of the last season but the Ukrainian chose to stay and fight for a place in the XI and soon, became the first-choice LB for Pep Guardiola.

Manchester City have been tipped to bring in a new left-back this summer. Portuguese and Sporting CP sensation, Nuno Mendes is said to be on the radar of the Premier League champions as they look to stabilize the left-flank.

The Cityzens have been trying to land the 19-year-old from Sporting CP but the €50 million price tag set by Sporting CP is proving to be a stumbling block for the Cityzens, who are reluctant to spend that much, as per Fabrizio Romano.

The Sky Blues have been linked with Harry Kane and Jack Grealish as well. Signing the English duo is going to be a huge financial challenge for the Premier League champions and therefore, they are unwilling to compromise on their desire to bring in Grealish and Kane.

Manchester City are believed to have made an offer of around €30 million to secure the services of the prospect but seemed to have failed in their attempt.

Sporting CP are reluctant to accept an offer below their valuation of €50 million for the 19-year-old, who helped them win their first Ligue 1 title in 19 years.
