Pep Guardiola makes phone call to LaLiga star ahead of potential transfer
One of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s summer transfer priorities is signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane. However, there is a certain degree of acceptance from City’s camp that it’ll be difficult to prise Kane away from Tottenham this summer, with chairman Daniel Levy asking upwards of £150 million.
Sergio Aguero’s departure to Barcelona on a free transfer last month has left a big void in the Manchester City squad that needs filling.

The Argentinean, 33, was one of Premier League’s elite strikers, which means replacing him this summer has become an absolute necessity for Pep Guardiola.
Clearly, City need a top-quality striker in the ranks to help them win their maiden UEFA Champions League title next season.
With interest in Harry Kane seemingly cooling down, the Premier League champions are believed to be exploring their alternative targets and links with Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann has emerged since the last week.
According to reports from French outlet Footmercato, Manchester City has emerged as a potential destination for Antoine Griezmann. In fact, it goes on to claim that Pep Guardiola had phone calls with the Barcelona forward apparently to discuss a move.
Barcelona are in an absolute financial mess at the moment and are currently unable to register their summer signings having surpassed the strict salary cap set by LaLiga. This means new arrivals such as Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia, Memphis Depay, and Emerson Royal are yet to be drafted into the squad while re-registering Lionel Messi has hit a snag.
Keeping in mind the dramatic financial situation as well as the need to register their new signings, Barcelona are ready to offload Griezmann this summer. The France international’s representatives are apparently aware of the situation and remain in talks with the Catalan club for a solution.
Footmercato states Barcelona will sell Griezmann in this transfer window should they receive a suitable offer. Guardiola has been an admirer of the 30-year-old for a long time and wanted to sign him before he left Atletico Madrid for Barcelona in the summer of 2019.
While Kane remains a priority, Griezmann could become a solution for City’s problem in the upcoming season.
