According to Danish outlet BT (h/t The Manchester Evening News), Manchester City are monitoring FC Midtjylland prospect Gustav Isaksen.

Gustav Isaksen, 20, is considered one of the great hopes in his nation Denmark. He came up through the youth ranks at FC Midtjylland before breaking into their first team in 2019. The 20-year-old winger, who is contracted to the Danish club until 2024, made 31 appearances across all competitions last season, registering three goals and two assists in the process.

More from Man City Transfer Rumors

The FC Midtjylland hotshot has been capped through various youth levels for the Danish national team as well.

Isaksen’s performances seemingly have caught the attention of Manchester City, but FC Midtjylland have no interest in selling their talented young star in this transfer window because they intend to continue grooming him in Demark, BT (h/t The Manchester Evening News) claim.

Manchester City have spent huge amounts in the last 4-5 years to build their supremely talented, star-studded squad under Pep Guardiola.

And while City still intends to splash out big sums to sign stars like Harry Kane and Jack Grealish this summer, the club has recently turned to young players with top potential for their next generation.

The Cityzens bolstered their youth system earlier this year by signing exciting young guns like Dario Sarmiento, Kayky and Metinho. Sarmiento is expected to leave for England on July 15, where he is slated to feature in Manchester City’s early pre-season schedule.

Kayky, who recently turned 18, will spend another six months in Brazil to continue his development before arriving at the Etihad Stadium in January, while Metinho is expected to be loaned out to French club FC Troyes—the Premier League champions’ sister group.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s interest in Gustav Isaksen hardly surprises anyone as he continues to build a team for the future. Having gained a decent amount of experience playing first-team football with FC Midtjylland in the last two seasons, Isaksen has already created a lot of buzz.

The 20-year-old can play on either flank, and his lively, bold and strong style of play makes him particularly exciting to watch. Should the Sky Blues decide to sign Isaksen this summer; however, he would still need some polishing at academy level before he’s ready for regular Premier League football.
