According to a report from TransferMarketWeb, Manchester City are among the clubs ready to hijack AS Roma’s deal for Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka.

Granit Xhaka, 28, is widely tipped to leave Arsenal this summer, with new AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho making the central midfielder one of his top transfer targets. However, the Serie A side are having problems matching Arsenal’s valuation, which has ascended following the player’s eye-catching displays in the Euro 2020.

More from Man City Transfer Rumors

The 28-year-old midfielder has been one of Switzerland’s best players in Euro 2020, proving his critics wrong.

Xhaka was sensational against France in the Round of 16, helping the Swiss win in the penalty shootout and book a quarter-final clash with Spain.

However, the Arsenal midfielder missed the quarter-finals at St Petersburg in Russia through suspension on Friday, as Spain ended Switzerland’s dream run in the European Championships by winning 3-1 on penalities.

Xhaka has always had admirers, but his performances in Euro 2020 has now left some of Europe’s bigwigs to stand up and take note. Along with Manchester City, the likes of Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, and even Tottenham Hotspur are tracking the Gunners man, TransferMarketWeb claim.

Following a superb Euro 2020 campaign with Switzerland, the 28-year-old’s value has risen up from €20 million to €25 million, the report adds.

Xhaka, who joined Arsenal from Borussia Monchengladbach back in 2016, has two years left on his current contract. The Switzerland international is keen to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer and join Roma.

As for Manchester City, Pep Guardiola wants to bolster his squad in order to make an assault on the coveted Champions League trophy. Although Euro 2020 has meant it has been a slow start to the transfer window, the Sky Blues are still expected to have a busy summer and are aiming to make a couple of high-profile signings.

Apart from an interest in Harry Kane and Jack Grealish, a new central midfielder seems to be on Pep Guardiola’s wishlist, with Xhaka linked of late. Xhaka is a proven Premier League player who could be a top addition to Manchester City’s midfield, whilst being a solid back-up for Ilkay Gundogan and Rodri.

The Swiss is operating at the peak of his powers and has recently shown he can deliver the goods at the highest level. For around €25 million, Manchester City must not think twice before hijacking AS Roma’s deal for a player of Xhaka’s quality and experience.
