Manchester City is all set to make fresh recruitments in the ongoing summer window and have reportedly set sights on top-quality players. The Sky Blues are willing to spend big this summer and can soon sign ‘expensive’ targets like Jack Grealish and Harry Kane.

However, a new name seems to have sprung up on City’s wishlist. As per reports from The Athletic, the Cityzens are ready to make a move for Chelsea’s Reece James. The 21-year-old defender had a successful outing with the Blues last season as he won the Champions League.

The Englishman has slowly progressed into the first team and is presently considered an ‘important’ member in the Chelsea backline. Last term, the defender managed to gather 32 appearances in the Championship and had scored once for the West London side.

His performances in the Blues shirt has seen him receive a call-up to the national side for the ongoing European Championship. The former Wigan Athletic defender got his first start against Scotland and had put up an average performance for the Three Lions in a 0-0 stalemate at the Wembley Stadium.

Barring his recent failure, the English international has altogether been a consistent performer for the Chelsea side. At right-back, James has shown plenty of promise with his attacking ability and has been tipped as a ‘future star’ at Stamford Bridge.

Is Reece James a good option for Manchester City?

Looking at the current bench, the Cityzens have two viable right-back options in the shape of Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo. Therefore, I believe signing Reece James will not make much of a difference for the Sky Blues.

However, it is also important to remember that James is an exciting prospect for the future. With Kyle Walker edging towards the mid-30s, Manchester City must find a suitable replacement for their first-choice right-back.

The Chelsea star could well move out of Stamford Bridge as the Blues are reportedly looking to buy another right-back this summer. This could trigger a summer exit for James and therefore might be tempted to join Sky Blues before the start of the new season.
