Manchester City keeping tabs on English midfield duo
By Aditya Kumar
Even though Fernandinho has signed a one-year extension at Manchester City, Pep Guardiola is still looking for someone to replace the Brazilian in the long term.
With Manchester City looking at a possible rebuild this season, with a new striker, a midfielder and possibly another centre-back coming to Etihad, Pep is also looking to bring Kalvin Phillips from Leeds or Declan Rice from West Ham (according to recent reports from The Manchester Evening News).

Kalvin Phillips was a shining diamond in Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United this season. The Lillie Whites made a comeback to the premier league this season and finished an impressive ninth in the table.
He was also called up to the English national team for the first time in his career this season and is now a regular starter for Southgate’s team.
Signing Phillips however will not be an easy job for City, if they do choose to chase the 25-year old. With reports suggesting that Manchester City could face competition from not only Real Madrid as they look to replace their ageing midfield, but also from Juventus and Tottenham Hotspurs.
Phillips partners Declan Rice in the English midfield, another player Manchester City are heavily interested in.
A product of West Ham youth academy, Declan Rice has slowly become one of England’s best midfielders. His Rock-solid performances in the heart of West Ham’s midfield helped them achieve European qualification this season.
Even though, a defensive midfielder is not City and Pep Guardiola’s preference right now, bringing either one of them to the club can offer not only depth in the midfield but will also give players like Rodri some much-needed competition.
With Ikay Gundogam and Bernardo Silva rumoured to be leaving the club, can we actually see Pep Guardiola moving for at least one of these young midfielders in the summer transfer window?
