Manchester City offered swap deal for defender by La Liga Giants
By Aditya Kumar
According to a recent report by Mercato, translated by ESPN, La Liga giants FC Barcelona have offered Manchester City their winger, Ousmane Dembele for their full-back the Portuguese Joao Cancelo.
Joan Laporta, the Barcelona president, is a fan of the full-back and does not mind trading Dembele, who is considered a not so important player, to get him to Camp Nou.

Joao Cancelo played a very important part of Manchester City’s recently concluded season, where he played not only on the right full-back position but also on the left when needed.
Even though the Cityzens have an abundance of fullbacks in Kyle Walker, Benjamin Mendy, Oleksandr Zincheko they need depth in their squad if they aim to compete for the major trophies next season.
Cancelo hailed as a ‘fantastic’ player by Pep Guardiola, was usually deployed on the right full-back position, but is capable of playing on both flanks, hence making him an important part of the squad. Other than his versatility, the 27-year old also offers a younger option to the 31-year Kyle Walker, who is soon going to be in the twilight of his career.
Pep Guardiola is also known for the number of rotations he does in playing eleven and hence makes Cancelo an even more valuable part of the Sky Blues.
The deal is also not very favorable for the Cityzens, because Ousame Dembele, though a great player himself, does not offer anything new to the club. Manchester City already have an abundance of players who can play on the wings. These include Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling, Ferran Torres, and Bernardo Silva, who has been linked with a move away from the Etihad.
The Portuguese, who recently contacted Covid and had to be removed from the Euros, is an essential part of Manchester City and hence, in our humble opinion, should not be traded for a player who does not offer anything new to the club.
