According to Spanish publication Diario AS, Manchester City have been linked with a move for Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski.

Robert Lewandowski, 32, is widely considered as Europe’s elite marksman having scored 277 Bundesliga goals so far. He has further polished his credentials with 41 league goals in just 29 appearances for Bayern Munich this past season, breaking Gerd Muller’s Bundesliga record, which had stood for 49 years.

After spending seven golden years with Bayern Munich, however; the Polish international is open to leaving the Allianz Arena and playing in another country.

Diario AS claim Lewandowski, whose dream has always been to play for Real Madrid, already has offers on the table from Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

The 32-year-old centre-forward has a contract with Bayern until 2023. The Bundesliga champions are reluctant to sell their prolific goalscorer this summer, the report adds.

Lewandowski has been unstoppable for Bayern, especially in the last two seasons where he has plundered 103 goals across all competitions combined. Thus, it comes as no surprise that a number of elite European clubs are ready to make their move.

Manchester City are one of the clubs interested in the Pole, as manager Pep Guardiola aims to replace Sergio Aguero before the new season commences. Aguero’s departure on a free transfer to Barcelona has left a huge void in the squad, which Guardiola needs to fill in by hook or crook.

The Cityzens wish to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane to replace Aguero but very well know the premium they’ll have to pay to bring him to the Etihad Stadium. As an alternative plan to Kane, the English champions can definitely try out for Lewandowski.

Having coached Lewandowski for two seasons at Bayern, Guardiola knows the striker’s qualities in and out and the experience as well as the winning mentality he would bring to City. Lewandowski is one of Europe’s complete strikers and will instantly take City’s attack to another level.

With rumours of the Polish international open to leaving Bayern, Manchester City must go for the centre-forward if they fail to land Kane.
